Malaysia is targeting a first ever Olympic gold with hopes placed squarely on Chong Wei coming good in the men's singles after having settled for silver in the last two editions.

Students Present Research Findings at International Future Scientist Conference

BANGI, July 27, 2016 – About 120 students from 22 schools, including the University Kebangsaan Malaysia’s PERMATApintar National Gifted Centre, gathered to present their research findings at the International Future Scientist Conference for the Gifted and Talented Students 2016, recently.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs, Prof Dato’ Ir Dr Riza Atiq OK Abdullah said the conference is a platform for young students to present their research findings in an effort to elevate the quality of their research.

“We will be choosing impressive and noteworthy research that can be showcased at the national and international level. These selected research will also be published in proceeding which would be available on the internet so that it can be read by everyone around the world,” he said at the launch of the conference, recently.

He said the three day conference is also an opportunity for students to publicize the research that has been done successfully.

“Sharing what they have done with members of the public is a good way to gauge feedback on their project,” added Dato’ Riza.

Meanwhile, Director of PERMATApintar National Gifted Centre, Prof Datuk Dr Noriah Mohd Ishak said almost 200 research has been produced by Malaysian school students since the conference was first organised, five years ago.

“We have more participants this year and this include those from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT), Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaaan Cina (SJKC), Boarding School, daily school and Mara Junior Science College,” she said.

UKM’s ASASIpintar Student Won Bronze Medal in International Biology Olyampiad

BANGI, 3 August 2016 – A student from ASASIpintar Pre-University Programme of National University of Malaysia won a bronze medal at The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2016 held in Hanoi, Vietnam, recently.

The student, Soh Wei Yan, was one of Malaysia’s Biology Olympiad 2016 winners and was choosen to represent the country at the international level.

The International Biology Olympiad is an annual competition held every year among the IBO’s member countries and is a platform to assemble all talents in Biology from all over the world.

About 72 member countries of IBO witha total of 253 students took part in the competition, this year

Participants were tested on two parts which are theory and practical that evaluated their competency in mastering and applying knowledge pertaining to Biology in real world setting.

Another ASASIpintar Pre-University Programme that represented Malaysia in the Olympiad was Lee Yee Seng.
